Super excited to be taking part in Robin Gibson Gallery’s 50th Anniversary exhibition.
As part of my practice, I love studying artists’ works and creating ‘afters’ series. This is an homage to Arthur Streeton’s watercolour from 1898, held in the Art Gallery of NSW. A travel back in time, that is strangely still familiar. It is nice to imagine Streeton sketching the scene while aboard a ship. And reworking it in England, maybe missing Australia’s bright light - emphasised in that greeny-yellow grass. Streeton’s work is small, long and narrow - mine squatter in proportion, but much larger in scale. I’ve tried to both capture and re-work the expressionist marks and vibrant colours.
