Thrilled that my portrait of Agus Wijaya will be hanging in the traditional category of the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award.
I first met Agus nearly 15 years ago. He has always been humble, intelligent, hardworking and humorous. He may be softly spoken, but carries stories and ideas that command attention. His oeuvre of work grapples with and delves into identity and cultural identity – so I chose to paint him face-on, directly, not unlike a passport photo. This composition also mimics his early 'Transient' series.
The Fisher’s Ghost Art Award will run from the 27 September to the 21 November at Campbelltown Art Centre. It’s one of my favourite exhibitions, hope you can get along to view it.
