ACB Selects – National Emerging Art Prize
I’m super excited to have been chosen by Amber Creswell Bell, one of Australia’s most passionate emerging art advocates, for her online show, ‘ACB Selects’, an offshoot of the National Emerging Art Prize.
More info about this amazing opportunity –
“In the inaugural year of the National Emerging Art Prize (NEAP) 2021, no one could have predicted the volume, nor the extremely high calibre of entries received.
And while the finalists and winners were selected by an independent panel of judges, the gallery’s Creative Director, Amber Creswell Bell, had the great pleasure of viewing each and every one of the 1498 entries received.
“I was floored by the quality of entries – truly my heart was racing as I viewed the entries prior to judging. How thrilling to see the emerging art world producing such exciting works – both painted and ceramic. This “ACB Selects” exhibition is a presentation of works that I personally identified as worthy of your attention!”
ACB Selects will open online Thursday 17th February 2022, and all works will be available for purchase, with affordable flat rate of $90 shipping Australia-wide on all pieces. You will be able to read about each of the artists, as well as their individual artist statements.
This is a fabulous opportunity to discover some great emerging talent from right across the country.”
The watercolour, gouache and pencil artwork on 850gsm arches ‘Holding it all together’ was chosen for the exhibition. It was completed on the only table in our small house, while schooling my three primary aged kids. The flowers were a gift from my sister's garden, a reminder of the importance of connection and a celebration of nature and community – elements that all proved to be crucial as our world shrank. The shadows are indistinct and not quite sensible, referencing the ever-changing light as I stopped and started, time not quite feeling the same.

It is always a pleasure to see the works against the historic sandstone blocks of this venue!

Finalist in the Greenway Art Prize 2021
Completely honoured to be selected as local artist finalist in the 2021 The Greenway Art Prize, for my large watercolour painting Bleeding Heart. Thank you to the curators and congratulations to all the other finalists.
The opening will most likely be the evening of the 3rd of December (numbers may be COVID-limted - we shall see). And the exhibition will run from the 3rd to the 19th of December. Level 4, Mungo Scott Building,2-32 Smith Street Summer Hill. Hope to see you there!
A little bit about my artwork, Bleeding Heart which is available for purchase through the prize:
“During the lockdown I missed access to true virgin bushland dearly. I found myself scouring vistas on our park crawls for the biodiversity that existed before colonisation. This little vignette along the Hawthorne Canal of native bleeding heart with a peek of a palm leaf and an understorey of native geranium, dianella, lomandra and scurvy weed, could, at a squint, transport me to a subtropical rainforest. A mini-holiday in our urban gaol.”
